Bataan Refugee Camp on Google Maps (aka PRPC in Bataan, Morong, Philippines) - BanThad
Journal @ World / Refugee Camps / Bataan Refugee Camp (PRPC) - Jan 25, 2008 4:34am - Views (14639) - Ratings(2): ( 3.00 )
Wandering the internet and Google Earth, I found the Bataan Refugee Camp that I stayed before I came to the U.S. in 1990.

This camp is now abandoned and looks really barren. Here's the Google Maps satellite shot (click around, move & zoom in/out as you like):

In center of the shot is the Youth Center (the GYM of Section 10).
On the right is the market place. If you move south at the end of the long block there, that is where PASS School (like High School) was located...nothing is there on the map now. What a change.

Here's the best of my memory.

I am only sure of Section 10 (Vu`ng 10) because that's where I lived .1020E (or 1022E I forgot). I still have the PASS Certificate of completion. I used to work at the PEER AIDS center in PASS School too. My cycle is 141 there.

I had to walk along the road next to it to around South-West end to go to PASS School everyday. Then I'd walk up around North-East to go to the GYM and play basketball or go to the market to buy some food for my aunt.

Vuon Xoai, Sung 9, tam suoi, lien doan Huong Dao, chua Van Hanh... oh how my feet have tread upon the memories of my childhood...

I was there too and attended PASS school, from cycle 74, in 1986. Lived at section 8 next to the cemetary.

I was an AT for PASS High school in 1988 . To my memorial the zone 9 and 10 is not far away from PASS , because I've used to walk cross the street every day and it is about 150m or less.

Many of the buildings are gone thanks to termites. Some of the buildings are still in use and new buildings have been added as part of a a government-backed economic zone project. Tour companies now take tourists to PRPC to look at the remains, i.e. the old cement statues and monuments scattered around the abandoned neighborhoods.
